The Ministry of Health and Culture, along with Celebrate Cayman, have named the winners of their jingle competition, which was launched in March, asking musicians to be creative in the time of the coronavirus crisis.
Overall, 12 winners – three from each of four categories – out of a total of 95 qualifying entries, had their jingles selected for use on CIGTV, the Cayman Islands government digital and social media channels, and in public service announcements.
The categories were:
- Public Health – Education and Awareness
- Community Solidarity and Togetherness
- Hope and Healing
- Support Local
Any type of music was permitted, with guidelines asking for submissions to be ‘upbeat and cheerful’ with ‘clear, catchy lyrics’.
Entries were judged by representatives from the ministry and Celebrate Cayman and subsequently screened by members of the local cultural community.
The 12 winners were announced last week and awarded a $1,200 prize for each successful jingle, as well as the priceless feeling of hearing their work played through public media. Prolific songwriter Beneil Miller won in three categories: Community Solidarity and Togetherness; Hope and Healing; and Support Local, while YouTuber and musical artist KG Paree won in two categories: Community Solidarity and Togetherness and Hope and Healing.
