Social media platforms WhatsApp, Instagram and Facebook have been impacted by a wide-ranging outage, leaving millions of users worldwide without service, according to multiple media sources.
US news media CNBC has reported that websites and apps were responding with server errors, and reports on DownDetector.com showed the outages appear to be widespread “but it’s unclear if it impacts all users or just some locations. It’s not currently known what’s causing the outage”.
Facebook, on its official Twitter account, tweeted, “We’re aware that some people are having trouble accessing Facebook app. We’re working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible, and we apologize for any inconvenience.”

The Financial Express reported Monday, “in India, the outage seems to have begun around 9:00pm IST. Facebook is yet to acknowledge the issue at the time of filing of this report. Expectedly, users are flocking to micro-blogging website Twitter to report these issues”.
Other media companies are also highlighting the outage.
Facebook and some of its apps, including Instagram and WhatsApp, appeared to go down on Monday for many users. The social network and its apps began displaying error messages before noon Eastern time, users reported. https://t.co/G1fnRCHK9C
