Head-on collision leaves one dead, four others injured

South Church Street, in the vicinity of Parsons Circle, was the scene of a fatal car accident on Saturday night.

UPDATED 8am Sunday: A two-car collision on Saturday claimed the life of at least one person and sent another four to Cayman Islands Hospital, according to an RCIPS statement.

The statement, issued late Saturday night, said police and other emergency services were dispatched just before 8pm to the scene of the two-vehicle collision on South Church Street in George Town.

One vehicle had two occupants, while the other had three, police said.

Cayman Islands Fire Service officers extricated the occupants, and all parties were transported to hospital by ambulance.

“So far one man involved in the collision has been pronounced dead by the attending doctor,” the RCIPS statement said.

Traffic heading north on South Church Street is being diverted through Memorial Avenue. Those heading south are being diverted through Boilers Roads off Seafarers Way.

South Church Street will remain closed through Saturday night, police said.

Motorists are advised to avoid the area, if possible.

The collision is under investigation.
