Brac man charged with threats to kill

Police have charged a 45-year-old-man from Cayman Brac with threats to kill and damage to property after he allegedly threatened to burn down another man’s home on Thursday.

The man was scheduled to appear in court Monday, 25 Oct.

Police said the incident took place at Pearl Avenue in Cayman Brac, where officers responded to a report of a disturbance in which a man, known to the victim, made threats to set fire to the home and caused damage to the property.

“When the police arrived at the location, the man attempted  to evade the police and resisted arrest. However, the [police] managed to subdue and arrest him. A search of his person resulted in the recovery of white substance believed to be cocaine as well as ganja. He was further arrested in relation to the drugs recovered from him,” the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service said in a statement Monday.

Police said that they held the man in custody over the weekend as they were concerned for the safety of the victim. While in the Cayman Brac Police Station holding facility, he caused damage to the cell he was occupying, police said.
