West Bay resident Michael Lopez, also known as Lopez Watler, who has been on the run since 4 Oct., is now in police custody after turning himself into the Cayman Islands Detention Centre on Tuesday.
Police, in a brief statement, said, Lopez was arrested by the police after he went to the detention centre and he remains in custody, pending further investigation.
The 22-year-old was wanted by the police in relation to a firearms incident that took place on Saturday 10 July, 2021 about 9pm at a residence on Birch Tree Hill Road, West Bay and along West Church Street, West Bay.
In that incident, two shots were fired along West Church Street, near the West Bay Post Office.
No one reported injuries or damage to properties in the nearby area of the incident. During the investigation, two spent rounds were recovered by officers.
He was also being sought in connection with an incident that same evening in which the vehicle involved in the West Church Street shooting was located at a residence on Birch Tree Hill Road, and several rounds of ammunition were recovered along with a firearm magazine.
