Investigations are continuing.

On Wednesday night, during an interview on the Cayman Compass Facebook show ‘The Resh Hour’, deputy police commissioner Kurt Walton spoke briefly about that arrest as he shared that – this year, to date – there have been 40 firearm-enabled offences in the Cayman Islands.

“We continue to be very proactive in terms of targeting firearm offenders, recovering drugs, firearms. We have a very robust investigative team involved in looking at all of the  outstanding crimes we are continuing with those investigations,” Walton said.

  1. Gun Crime is the #1 destabilizing agent of every Caribbean Nation. The uniqueness of our evolution and carefree way of life has been predicated on keeping illicit firearms out of the ecosystem and creating laws and punishments to discourage firearms offenses. Our Governor, and government and our business community need to make clear that gun crime an absolute top priority, ferret out the weapons and punish offenders to the fullest. I say this as someone who has owned firearms for most of his adult life, is comfortable around guns. However I have never kept weapons in Cayman because I fear their theft and have never needed a weapon for personal safety. Guns are dangerous in any hands and just too-efficient at harming and killing people. We must keep them unobtainable here and make the consequences fo having them hurt if we want the Cayman way of life we enjoy and take for granted to continue.
