Former Tourism Attraction Board CEO Gilbert Connolly passes

Former Tourism Attraction Board CEO Gilbert Connolly has died.

A TAB statement, posted on its social media pages, said the management and staff were “saddened” to hear of the passing of the former CEO and long-time civil servant.

“Mr. Connolly was our friend and colleague for 13 years as the CEO of the Tourism Attraction Board and Secretary of the Board from 2003 to 2016. He was instrumental in the growth of the TAB and led the charge in the two-year recovery efforts of Pedro St James after the site was devastated by the passing of Hurricane Ivan, among other notable efforts,” the statement said.

Connolly was a retired senior civil servant and a graduate of Pace University, New York with a bachelor’s degree in business administration. He also held a post graduate diploma in insurance management from Nottingham University and City University London, and an EMBA from UCCI and the University of Toronto.

He was known for being vocal about developments within the community and would often share his opinion through letters and columns to the Cayman Compass.

Connolly was also the former interim executive secretary of the Cayman Islands People’s Party led by former MLA Ezzard Miller, which was launched back in 2019.

The TAB, in its statement, which was also shared with the Compass, offered “our deepest condolences to his wife Laura, his children, extended family and friends as they go through this difficult time”.
