One person was taken into custody, and was subsequently released, on Monday afternoon after an incident at the John Gray High School in which two ex-students entered the compound and challenged a Year 11 student.

Police, in response to queries from the Cayman Compass, said via email that a second altercation later occurred following the initial John Gray High School clash.

A Royal Cayman Islands Police Service spokesman told the Compass that officers had responded to a report of an altercation at John Gray High School, involving multiple persons earlier on Monday.

“Later in the afternoon police were called to another altercation at a location on Walker’s Road, however the parties had dispersed prior to police arrival. Both incidents appear to be linked and are currently under police investigation,” a police spokesperson said.

A statement from the school’s principal Jonathan Clark later said no students were injured as a result of the incident.

It stated that the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service was called into the school at approximately 12:10pm after the ex-students entered the campus and challenged the Year 11 student regarding a recent incident involving two female students.

No further details on that incident or what transpired at the school were released.

The statement said John Gray staff, security and police “moved quickly to restore order”.
