A group of educators and family members joined in a celebration of Proud of Them recipient Aiden Watler on Saturday, 26 March.
Though he is off-island studying maths at the University of California, Berkeley, and hasn’t seen his Proud of Them billboard, his mother and father, as well as his former schoolteachers and principals at Cayman Prep and High School wanted to celebrate his achievement.
They gathered under the billboard, at the CUC roundabout by King’s Sports Centre on Crewe Road, for a group photo with each person holding up a sign identifying their connection to Aiden, for example, Year 1 teacher, high school principal, high school English teacher, and his mother and father.
Aiden was nominated by his aunt in the areas of academics and culture under the government-run youth appreciation and recognition initiative.
People aged 10-25 are nominated in the areas of academics, careers, business, sports, culture or community service. Each of the 15 recipients selected has their poster displayed for 12 months.
