Health and Wellness Minister Sabrina Turner took time out of her schedule recently to motivate 34 girls playing football under Academy Sports Club.
Turner spoke on the importance of believing in yourself while encouraging the young players on the Under-15s and Under-18s teams to never limit their dreams.
“You all have all broken barriers, going into a male-dominated field,” she said during her 29 March visit, noting that she had “ventured into politics, which is also male dominated”.
She emphasised the importance of eliminating self-doubt.
“Do not underestimate what life has for you by doubting yourself,” she said. “Never let anyone diminish how you think about yourself.”
She added, “Someone may be better in the forward or goalkeeper position but that’s their strengths. But collectively, as a team, you all are in it for the common good and there is no difference in life.
“We are all here for our own purpose, no matter the colour of your skin, no matter what your beginnings are… we are all in this fight together.”
