A man is currently undergoing surgery at the Cayman Islands Hospital after being shot in the stomach during a heated dispute.
The incident occurred shortly after 5:30pm on Wednesday, 20 April, along Oakland Close in Windsor Park, George Town, at an address commonly referred to as ‘Big Yard’.
In a statement from the RCIPS, a spokesperson said, “One man was reported to have received gunshot wounds to the abdomen and was transported to the hospital by private vehicle, where he is currently being treated. The extent of his injuries is yet to be determined.”
At the scene, Cayman Compass staff were told by eye-witnesses that both men are known to each other, and the shooting occurred after a shard of glass from a broken bottle, thrown by the injured man, got into the eye of a child.
The matter remains under investigation, and police say anyone with information about the shooting should contact the George Town Police Station at 949-4222.
