Travel Cayman has issued a warning to the public to adhere to isolation protocols after it said a number of alleged breaches were being investigated involving residents in Cayman Brac and Grand Cayman.
Over the past week, Travel Cayman said it received nine tips regarding breaches – seven from Cayman Brac and two from Grand Cayman.
The Travel Cayman warning comes as Cayman continues to record increases in COVID cases with 151 recorded on Tuesday and 98 on Monday. The seven-day rolling average for 18 May is 115.
The most recent statistics from the Health Ministry on Thursday estimate that there are 1,765 active cases of COVID-19 in the Cayman Islands.
Of the 10 people currently hospitalised for COVID-19-related causes, six are unvaccinated.
The Sister Islands reported seven new cases, bringing the active number to 84, with a total of 906 cases since the beginning of the pandemic.
The recent rise in cases put the Cayman Islands back on The New York Times COVID hot spots list Tuesday, ranking seventh in the world in cases per 100,000 residents over the previous week.
Travel Cayman, in its statement Thursday, said its team together with Public Health and the RCIPS “are working diligently to investigate each breach and ensure that persons in isolation understand and adhere to isolation protocols”.
Under COVID protocols, members of the public who are required to quarantine are not allowed to have any visitors nor leave their place of isolation until they receive notification from Public Health.
If they breach those protocols, the statement said, they jeopardise their health as well as the health and safety of others.
“With an increase in the numbers of persons testing positive for COVID-19, we must remain vigilant and continue our efforts in protecting ourselves and our community. If you suspect someone is not adhering to isolation requirements, please contact our team at 943-SAFE (7233) or in Cayman Brac 526-8557,” Casandra Morris, director of Travel Cayman, said in the statement.
She said that anyone found to be in breach of the isolation provisions will be warned for intended prosecution or ticketed, and be liable to a fine or imprisonment.

🙂 :):):):):):)):):) hilarious that they still think isolation slows any spread. It’s been proven that those procedures don’t stop anything or slow the spread of COVID. COVID spreads regardless because is a virus. Typical of cayman so far…two years behind the curve. so sad.
Covid is still very much alive!! Unless people are willing to be sympathetic to others by doing a few simple things to help protect them (to some, getting covid is not “just a cold” – rather they can be seriously affected) this will continue to spread and be critical to some.
Cayman, please continue to protect those fragile individuals from the others who are not willing to do such simple things for their fellow man.
