Sunset FC beat Scholars ISC 6-3 to claim the Cayman Islands Football Association Women’s FA Cup on Sunday, 3 July, at the Truman Bodden Sports Complex, to close the 2021-2022 season.
With the win, Sunset finished their season having captured the CIFA Charity Shield, President’s Cup and the FA Cup.
The match on Sunday night got off to a fast start, when Sunset’s striker Molly Kehoe opened with a goal 28 seconds after kick-off.
Teammate Shanice Monteith made it 2-0 eight minutes later and then Kalie Ebanks extended her team’s lead with another goal in the 15th minute.
Scholars’ 15-year-old standout Jehnique Russell, netted her first of three goals during the game in the 17th minute, but Sunset’s Alexia Broomfield would answer back with a goal of her own in the 24th minute.

Just before the half-time whistle blew, Kehoe scored her second goal to close the first half 5-1.
“The team played fantastic,” Alan Purvis, Sunset’s youth coach told the Cayman Compass. “We could have scored more but…overall, it was a very solid team performance.”
During the second half, Russell scored a hat-trick, with goals in the 48th and 62nd minutes, while Broomfield secured her team’s final goal in the 57th minute. For Russell, she said her team could have played better, but she was happy, nonetheless.
“It wasn’t the greatest result,” Russell told the Compass after the match. “I scored three times. We all worked together but there are some places we need to work at more during training and we will get this back next season.”
Sunset’s team captain, Shayana Windsor, who scored Cayman’s first goal during the CONCACAF World Cup Qualifiers earlier this year, credited Scholars for their performance, but said her team’s determination paid off.
“We had loads of different goal scorers and everyone gave 100% of their effort,” she told the Compass. “Scholars do have a lot of talent and they put up a good fight. We just really wanted it and I’m so proud of my girls.”
