Cayman’s Aaron Jarvis will have two former major winners for company when he makes his bow at the Open Championship in Scotland, Thursday 14 July.
The teenage golfer will line up alongside Sergio Garcia and US star Stewart Cink when he tees off at 12:53 pm UK time, 6:53 am in Cayman.
Garcia, who won the 2017 US Masters, is a perennial favourite on the world tour and one of the stars of the game.
The Spaniard played a practice round with Jarvis, 19, ahead of the US Masters in April.
Cink, who won the Open Championship in 2009, was just ahead of Jarvis on day two at Augusta. He nailed a spectacular hole-in-one on the 16th hole, before the Caymainan, who was next on the tee, almost repeated the trick.
The trio will play the first two rounds of the Open together at the Old Course in St Andrews, Scotland, on Thursday and Friday.
Jarvis is the first Caymanian in history to compete at the Open Championship.
He told the Compass last week he was looking forward to the tournament and hoping his experience at the US Masters in April, where he shot an impressive two-over-par second round, would stand him in good stead for the challenge ahead.
“I am nervous and I am excited, but that experience on the Friday at Augusta will definitely help,” he said. “I was happy with that round. The scores were not low that day and I proved I could stay in there.”
