The Cayman Islands took to the Alexander Stadium in Birmingham, England, on Thursday, 28 July, as part of the opening ceremony for the 2022 Commonwealth Games.

The celebration featured more than 30,000 spectators and north of 5,000 athletes from 72 nations.

Caymanians Louis Gordon and Marlene West were the chosen flag-bearers and led 17 other teammates through the stadium that will host the athletics events over the next 11 days.

“It’s electric and just awesome,” Janet Sairsingh, the Cayman Islands Olympic Committee’s Chef de Mission, said.

“For Cayman, all the athletes have worked hard to be here, and just coming out here to the opening is quite an experience.”
