A 77-year-old woman was killed after the car she was travelling in crashed into a tree in South Church Street, George Town, early this morning, Sunday, 31 July.

Police said the white Kia Sportage, carrying four occupants, hit the tree shortly after 12:25am.

The driver and the three passengers were all transported from the accident scene to  Cayman Islands Hospital by ambulance.

The elderly woman, of Bodden Town, was later pronounced dead by the attending doctor.

Two other occupants of the vehicle remained in the hospital in stable condition, while the other was discharged with what is believed to be non-life-threatening injuries, police said in a statement issued Sunday afternoon.

Police are investigating the collision, and are asking anyone with information to call the Traffic and Roads Policing Unit at 649-6254 or the George Town Police Station at 949-4222. Anonymous tips can be submitted via the RCIPS confidential tip line at 947-7777 or online.
