McLean wins George Teale Trophy

Cayman golfer Holly McLean took top honours in the ladies’ division at the 65th Caribbean Amateur Golf Championship, which ran 1-5 Aug. in the Turks and Caicos Islands.

McLean, 18, claimed the George Teale Trophy after posting a four over par 220 at the Royal Turks and Caicos Golf Club.

Cayman competes in CONCACAF U15 championship

Cayman competed at the 2022 CONCACAF Girls’ Under-15 Championship in Tampa, Florida earlier this month.

The Caymanian girls competed against Nicaragua, Guyana, and Turks and Caicos Islands in Group E, winning two of their three matches to finish second in their group. They did not qualify for the next round of play.

Crooks improves on three national records at US meet

Jillian Crooks, who is Cayman’s fastest female swimmer in history at only 16 years old, continues to get faster.

During the USA Swimming Futures Championships last month, Crooks bettered her national records in the 50-, 100- and 200-metre freestyle events.

She clocked 26.34 seconds in her 50m swim, then lowered her 100m time to 56.56 seconds, followed by her 200m, where she finished in 2:03.67.

Brackets announced for Cayman Islands Classic

Game match-ups for the Cayman Islands Classic basketball tournament have been set, with eight teams competing on 21-23 Nov. at the John Gray High School gymnasium.

Louisiana State University face Illinois State in the opening game at 11am, followed by Western Kentucky vs. Akron at 1:30pm, according to organiser Caymax Sports Ltd.

Nevada will play Tulane at 5pm, and Rhode Island and Kansas State will conclude opening-day games at 7:30pm.
