The Cayman Islands Women’s National Team is set to return to the pitch at the Truman Bodden Sports Complex as they host Guatemala in a crucial CONCACAF W Qualifiers match.
This upcoming game, set for Friday, 6 March, serves as an important step in the team’s journey toward the 2026 CONCACAF W Championship, which acts as the regional gateway for both the FIFA Women’s World Cup Brazil 2027 and the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
The Cayman side is looking to find its rhythm and secure its first points in Group C following a challenging opening match against Bermuda last November.
In that previous outing, the Cayman squad – ranked 32 in the CONCACAF rankings – faced a 4-0 loss to a 14th ranked Bermudan side.
With the advantage of home soil and the backing of local supporters once again, Cayman will aim to rebound against the Guatemalan side, with kickoff time at 7pm.
In a Cayman Islands Football Association interview, Cayman’s head coach, Michael Johnson, emphasised the importance of the public coming out to support the Cayman ladies.
“Being at home is fantastic to play [as] it gives them an extra boost. When they’re feeling tired [and] mentally drained; when they hear their family members and their fans, it gives them that extra drive to push forward. That’s something that we won’t get at the away games,” Johnson said.
The full Cayman roster announced by the Cayman Islands Football Association for this fixture is Naomi Wilson, Lea Do Santos Smith, Olivia Ridley, Estella Ridley, Daniella Gourzong, Alaishia Williams, Courtney Hicks, Cayden Coles, Chelsea Brown, Imogen Smailes, Harper Nelson, Neesah McKenzie, Tamoy Phillips, Jada Dixon Lam, Hayleigh Solomon, Reese Bateson, Brittni Ebanks, Cosabella Windsor, Tessa Clark, Malia Hydes and Tyanna Jan.
Looking ahead, Cayman will have to contend with Costa Rica and Grenada as group C pool play continues. Tickets for Friday’s match can be purchased here.
