A motorbike rider was killed Sunday afternoon after his bike crashed in a high-speed race at the Parker’s Raceway in Breakers, Bodden Town.
The man was taken to the Cayman Islands Hospital by ambulance following the crash, where he was pronounced dead, police said.
The accident happened just after 2pm when the rider lost control of his black Suzuki motorcycle and fell from the bike, the RCIPS said in a statement Sunday evening.
“The Cayman Islands Fire Service attended the raceway to assist with the wreckage and ensure the scene was safe for other emergency personnel,” police said.
The racetrack was closed following the crash.
Before the biker’s death was confirmed, Parker’s Raceway, on its Facebook page, asked for prayers for the racer.
Racetrack owner Keith Tibbetts told the Compass the company had no comment at this time.
Parker’s Raceway has been operating since 2020, after taking over the Breakers Speedway, where motorbike riders and car drivers take part in drag-races along the one-eighth-mile track at weekend events.
The accident is being investigated by police, and investigators are encouraging witnesses to call the Traffic and Roads Policing Unit at 649-6254, the George Town Police Station at 949-4222, or submit a tip through the RCIPS Tip Line at 949-7777 or via its our website.
