One year after motorcyclist Kashwayne McKenzie crashed to his death while competing at Parker’s Raceway, the track remains quiet with no indication of when the green ‘go’ lights will come back on.
No racing events have been scheduled since the 28 Aug. 2022 crash, with raceway officials at this time unable to confirm a reopening date for the Bodden Town track.
“As of this moment, we don’t have much in the way of updates regarding the track that [we] can share,” a raceway representative told the Cayman Compass, noting that they will reopen soon but not specifying a date.
McKenzie, a father-of-four, was 29 years old when he lost control of his black Suzuki and fell from his motorbike, leaving the racing fans in attendance stunned.
People close to the professional bike rider told the Compass they believed the accident was caused by the motorcycle malfunctioning once the race had started.
While there has been no official cause announced for the tragic incident, track officials said they are taking measures to protect everyone who will be competing moving forward, adding, “We will have new systems in place to prevent last year from repeating itself.”
Prior to McKenzie’s funeral on 8 Oct, more than 200 automobile and motorcycle enthusiasts took part in a procession to honour him.
The Compass reached out to McKenzie’s family to see if they are planning another ‘Roll-Out’ in his honour this year. They said they “were thinking about it” but nothing has been finalised.
