Ogier launches regulatory consulting business

Lisa Bowyer

International law and fiduciary services firm Ogier has launched Ogier Regulatory Consulting, which provides specialist regulatory and compliance support to financial services and other regulated businesses in the Cayman Islands.

Cayman-based consultant Lisa Bowyer has also been appointed to lead the new service line, which will operate in the jurisdiction as Ogier Liberty.

As head of Ogier Regulatory Consulting in Cayman, Bowyer will oversee a team of on-the-ground experts in regulatory requirements, who are former regulators, advisors, policymakers and compliance officers, according to a press release.

Working alongside Jersey-based head of Ogier Regulatory Consulting Tui Iti, Bowyer and the team in Cayman will also enable access to Ogier’s regulatory lawyers who advise on multi-jurisdictional anti-money laundering regulation and compliance issues.

Services include compliance audits, AML audits, regulatory reviews and effectiveness reviews, as well as remediation support and AML training.

Bowyer has more than 20 years’ experience as a policymaker; regulatory and compliance consultant; educator; and trainer in the fields of law, regulation and compliance. Her business, Liberty Compliance Consulting, which has provided advice and training in the islands for the past 14 years, has been merged into Ogier Regulatory Consulting in Cayman.

“There’s no doubt that navigating the regulatory landscape is becoming increasingly challenging and there is growing demand in the Cayman Islands for high quality expertise in this space,” Bowyer said in the release. “I’m really pleased to be bringing Ogier Liberty to the Cayman market under the umbrella of Ogier Regulatory Consulting and I’m looking forward to providing clients with proactive regulatory, compliance and AML consultancy services to help identify and manage issues before they even arise.”

Having worked in the UK, Channel Islands and Cayman, she is a specialist in the purpose and risks of regulation, international legal and regulatory requirements, the drivers and strategies of financial markets and products, and providing solutions for clients.

James Bergstrom, managing partner, Ogier in Cayman, said, “Through Ogier Regulatory Consulting in Cayman we are able to bring together our legal and compliance expertise to offer a seamless, high quality and cost-effective solution to the Cayman financial services and business community.”

Ogier provides advice on the law in the British Virgin Islands, Cayman, Guernsey, Ireland, Jersey and Luxembourg. The group’s network of locations also includes Beijing, Hong Kong, London, Shanghai, Singapore and Tokyo.
