Family of firsts in Cayman accountancy

Phillip Pierson, associate director at business advisory Quantuma, has mirrored his grandfather’s success, by becoming the first Caymanian insolvency practitioner within a Cayman Islands accountancy firm to pass the INSOL International Foundation Certificate in International Insolvency Law.
His grandfather Linford A. Pierson was the first born Caymanian to qualify as a professional accountant on the island in 1978, and he went on to serve as an elected member and Speaker of the then Legislative Assembly.
Throughout his 10-year career, Phillip Pierson has gained extensive experience in corporate restructuring and insolvency including liquidations and receiverships across multiple industries and territories, including the US, UK and the Channel Islands. His latest achievement adds to his master of science in accounting, and certified public accountant and certified fraud examiner qualifications.
Pierson, an associate director at Quantuma, said, “It is an honour to follow in my grandfather’s footsteps and create another milestone in Caymanian accountancy history and for our family as well.”
He joined Quantuma’s Cayman Islands team on 1 April 2022.
Quantuma acquired Alchemy, a local assets and financial loss recovery firm, in January 2021. Alchemy was founded by Angela Barkhouse who now head’s Quantuma’s Cayman office.

Butterfield receives best private bank award
Butterfield has been recognised as the best private bank in the Cayman Islands and Bermuda by The Banker and PWM in the 14th annual Global Private Banking Awards 2022, and also by Global Finance in the magazine’s eighth annual World’s Best Private Banks 2023 awards.
Both The Banker and PWM belonging to the Financial Times, and acknowledge private banks that excelled in their business strategy, boosted inflows and satisfied clients. This year, more than 120 banks from 50 countries entered the awards.
Yuri Bender, judge and editor-in-chief of PWM, said: “Butterfield was recognised by the judging panel for its strong brand name and high-touch approach in its key markets of Bermuda and the Cayman Islands. Its expertise in trust and fiduciary services was also noted.”
The Global Finance World’s Best Private Banks Awards for 2023 recognises banks that best serve the needs of high-net-worth individuals as they seek to protect and grow their wealth.
JTC wins global fund administration award

Global professional services provider, JTC, has been named ‘Fund Administration Challenger of the Year’ at the Global Custodian Industry Leaders Awards in New York.
The award recognises firms that have significantly increased their international presence and are seen to be on a successful growth trajectory.
The Global Custodian Industry Leaders awards honour the fund services community and recognise the outstanding performers from prime brokerage, hedge funds, private equity, mutual fund and ETF administration.
Michael Richards, group head of institutional services, and Andrew Ferreira, manager – fund services, attended the ceremony at Chelsea Piers in New York on 17 Nov.
Wouter Plantenga, ICS head of group client services, said, “This award is a reflection of the ambitious plans that JTC has globally, including seven acquisitions last year, of which five were in the US.
