Update – 1:30pm: The RCIPs says South Sound Road has been reopened, and traffic can operate as normal.

Police did not say if any arrests had been made during the operation which began earlier today.

Original story: A section of South Sound Road has been closed off by police who are carrying out an operation involving armed officers in the area.

An RCIPS spokesperson said police had temporarily closed off South Sound Road from the entrance at Crewe Road to the Walkers Road junction while the operation is under way.

At this time, no access is allowed to South Sound, the spokesperson said, adding, “We ask that motorists and other members of the public use alternative routes if possible. As the operation continues, traffic and community impact will be assessed and adjustments made where possible.”
