Mustang Track Club athletes left Cayman on Friday, 26 May, for the 31st Annual BAYTAF Classic, being held at the University of South Florida from 27-28 May.
A total of 61 track-and-fielders will don their traditional, purple-coloured uniforms to compete against elite athletes across several divisions.
Speaking with the Cayman Compass, Tyrone Yen, head coach of the club, acknowledged the team is large, but said the benefits are great for some of the junior athletes who will gain valuable experience for their first time competing internationally.
“From the beginning of Mustang Track Club, the aim has always been development and travelling,” Yen said. “With a lot of our youth athletes coming through the ranks, this will be good for them… and next year some of them will be old enough for CARIFTA.”
Joining the team will be top Mustang competitors like Andrew Stone, Aaliyannah Anderson, Davonte Howell and Jaiden Reid.
Yen said he expects to see some of the athletes produce podium-worthy performances.
“All in all, we are prepared and, yes, it’s a tough meet, but we expect a good showing from our athletes.”
