With a new ‘spin’ on the Meals on Wheels concept, supporters of the charity will be getting on stationary bikes and yoga mats this weekend in an innovative fundraising event organised by the Chamber of Commerce Leadership Cayman class of 2023.
The class is hosting ‘Wheels for Meals’ at Vital Spinbar & Yogaden in Grand Harbour on Saturday, 24 June, from 9am to 2pm.
All proceeds will go to Meals on Wheels, with the lofty target of raising $50,000, which will allow the charity to deliver 7,143 free, hot and nutritious meals to older residents, those who are homebound and adults with disabilities throughout the Cayman Islands, Monday to Friday, 52 weeks of the year.
Class chair Candice Czeremuszkin explained that the Cayman community has been invited to form teams of up to five, made up of family, friends, colleagues, to jump on spin bikes, enjoy the yoga den, and bring the kids along for kids Zumba.
Jennifer West, general manager of the charity, said, “We’re thrilled to be chosen by this group and love the Wheels for Meals twist.”
Each team was asked to raise or donate a minimum of $2,500, which would allow Meals on Wheels to feed 350 seniors for an entire month Any funds raised above this amount will go towards the annual hurricane/emergency supply kits for seniors and weekly supplemental grocery bags.
“It is so important for groups to come together like this to make an even bigger difference in the lives of those vulnerable persons in our community who need extra support, especially during these difficult times,” Czeremuszkin said.
Each team member will be participating in one of the five one-hour back-to-back spinning, yoga, spin/yoga (hybrid), or kids Zumba classes – suited for all fitness levels.
Donations can be made through the Chamber of Commerce website, corporate sponsorship and point-of-sale donations at Hurley’s.
