It’s time again for residents to show their support for Cayman’s less fortunate senior citizens by helping to ensure they get nutritious daily meals.
The annual Meals on Wheels “Seniors Rock Dress Down Day” happens on Friday, 26 Sept. For a donation of CI$25, participants can purchase the iconic orange ‘Seniors Rock’ t-shirt or host a “rock orange” dress down event with donations.
“Many seniors in Cayman live alone and on fixed incomes, making access to nutritious meals a daily challenge,” said Jennifer West, chief executive officer of Meals on Wheels. “Our volunteers deliver over 300 meals each day but rising food costs and a growing elderly population mean community support is vital. Sadly, some seniors remain on our waiting list for service, which is the unfortunate reality we face.”
Each t-shirt purchased feeds one senior for an entire week.
In addition to the continued sponsorship of Butterfield Bank for the Seniors Rock event, Meals on Wheels is welcoming another sponsor, West said.
“This year Café del Sol has also signed on to make Seniors Rock a little sweeter,” she said. “For every purchase of the ‘Brewed for Good’ Orange Cold Brew, part proceeds will be donated towards providing hot meals.”T-shirts can be ordered by emailing [email protected] or by calling 929-2292. Once ordered, they can be collected from the new Meals on Wheels administrative office at 14 Durham Drive, off Industrial Way. Orders will be accepted until stock runs out.
For those unable to take part in the Seniors Rock Dress Down Day, donations are always welcomed at www.pledgeasenior.com.
Meals on Wheels supporters can also participate in other upcoming events, including the Turkey Trot 1 Mile & 5K Walk/Run on 30 Nov., and the Santa for Seniors Food & Gift Drive from 30 Nov. to 20 Dec. 2025.
