With a new personal best time and national record of 55.32, Cayman’s Jillian Crooks won her heat of the women’s 100-metre freestyle on Wednesday, 26 July, to finish 23rd overall in the event at the 2023 World Aquatics Championships.
Following strong performances and personal bests from Harper Barrowman and Jordan Crooks in each of Cayman’s events so far, 17-year-old Jillian’s first swim of these World Championships saw her slice nearly a second off her previous best from just two months ago.
The Cayman Islands’ youngest-ever Olympian, who finished as the third fastest age group (U18) swimmer in the event, had a priceless reaction to the realisation of her time and placing, flashing a beaming smile and gesturing the numbers ‘3-4-5’ for the world to see.
While she finished outside of the top-16 places that advanced to the semifinals, Crooks is back in action for heat seven of the women’s 50-metre freestyle, scheduled for 8:44 p.m. on 28 July.

| Jillian Crooks | 50m freestyle (heats) | 28 July | 8:44 p.m. |
