Police have confirmed that a 39-year-old Bodden Town man died in a fatal single-vehicle collision on the Esterley Tibbetts Highway on Wednesday night.

The RCIPS, in a statement on the crash Thursday afternoon, did not release the victim’s name.

Another occupant of the vehicle, a white Toyota Mark X, was arrested. He has since been granted bail while the inquiry continues.

Police said the crash occurred shortly before 11:20pm, when the car, which was travelling southward along the road, crashed into a fence just north of the Butterfield roundabout.

Emergency services responded to the collision, and both occupants of the vehicle were taken to the Cayman Islands Hospital, where the Bodden Town resident was declared dead, police said.

The southbound lanes of the Esterley Tibbetts Highway, between the Butterfield and Camana Bay roundabouts, were temporarily closed as the scene was processed.

The lanes have since been reopened.

Police said the matter is being investigated by the Traffic and Roads Policing Unit and appealed for anyone with any information to contact 649-6254.
