Along with the veterans who helped steer Cayman’s national men’s football team to their first victory in almost four years was newcomer Lachlin Lambert, who stood strong in the net for his first match at the senior level.
The 17-year-old goalkeeper had previously been selected and placed on the team roster for Cayman’s 2023-24 CONCACAF Nations League fixtures against the US Virgin Islands on 7 Sept., and Aruba on 11 Sept.
However, the rookie wasn’t called to defend his team’s goal until the 17 Oct. match against USVI – a game that resulted in the historic 2-1 win for Cayman.
“It feels amazing,” Lambert told the Compass after the win. “Since I was little…it’s been a dream to play for this team and it’s just so, so great to see this team win and be in net for them.”
His debut couldn’t have gone better, with notable saves during the match – a performance that could place Lambert on the starting sheet for the next go-round.
“I will always want to play for Cayman… I love it here,” he said, noting that the ‘old guard’ welcomed him to the team as if he were family.
“They treated me like a brother,” Lambert added. “It’s awesome, the team works great together and yeah, it’s just amazing to be a part of it.”
