Caymanian golfer Holly McLean is competing at the third annual Women’s Amateur Latin America at Pilar Golf in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
It’s the first time for Cayman to be represented at the tournament, which teed off on 15 Nov. and concludes on Saturday, 18 Nov.
“This is a wonderful opportunity for Holly in her young golf career,” Daniel Fortune, president of the Cayman Islands Golf Association, told the Compass. “We are very fortunate to have a player of Holly’s standing representing Cayman in this prestigious event.”
McLean, a freshman at the University of Oklahoma, has already secured major wins this year – claiming both the girls’ under-18 division at the Caribbean Amateur Junior Golf Championship, held locally in July, and the women’s individual title at the Caribbean Amateur Golf Championship in Tobago.
Should McLean pull off the victory, which would mark the second win for Cayman at the prestigious tournament – Aaron Jarvis won the men’s event last year – she would receive an invite to the Women’s British Open, the Evian Championship and the Chevron Championship.
