Radiance Dance Studio presented its fifth annual Christmas recital, ‘Peace, Love, Joy!’, to a full house Sunday, 3 Dec. at the Harquail Theatre.
Each performer, dressed in bright, colourful and sparkly dance costumes, “embarked on a captivating journey, weaving together the elements of peace, love and joy through the magnificent language of dance,” explained Aimee McKenzie, the event emcee.
Close to 100 dancers, ranging in age from 3 to 16, celebrated the festive season, dancing to merry holiday melodies including ‘It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas’, ‘All I Want for Christmas is You’, ‘It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year’ and ‘Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer’.
The performances featured several genres and multiple age groups, including senior and junior performers, jazz, Acro, Caribbean rhythms, creative movement, hip-hop and modern contemporary, and body conditioning.
“Each graceful movement, every synchronised ensemble and every piece of music has been carefully orchestrated to ignite the spark of the holiday season within your souls,” narrator McKenzie told the audience.
All the performers graced the stage for the final performance of ‘Feliz Navidad’.
“The show went extremely well,” Jessica Eden, artistic director, told the Compass. “We were all proud of their hard work. It has only been 12 weeks since the start of the season. This is the first time on stage for some of the dancers. We are amazed by the confidence they displayed.”
Eden confirmed the Christmas recital was the first show of the season, adding “it is also our annual performance to bring in the Christmas spirit… [and] to start getting the dancers ready for their end-of-season performance in June, next year.”
Radiance will also be performing at the Prospect Christmas Community Party on 9 Dec.; ‘Christmas at the Castle’, at Pedro St James on 10 Dec.; ‘A Gift at Christmas’ at Heroes Square on 15 Dec.; and the Savannah Seniors’ Christmas Party at Pedro on 18 Dec.
