Ex-Slipknot drummer Jay Weinberg has been featured in the first episode of a video series filmed in Cayman paying tribute to music legend Alex Van Halen.
The ‘Live from Ironshore’ series was filmed at the newly opened Ironshore Studios in Grand Cayman.

It features interviews and performances by three recognised drummers playing on Alex Van Halen’s 2012 touring drum set, built by drum customiser John Douglas.
In the first episode, Weinberg spoke to David Frangioni, the publisher and CEO of Modern Drummer magazine, about his encounters with Van Halen and how he influenced his drumming and career.
Following the interview, he performed his own version of the Van Halen band’s ‘Running With the Devil’ on the kit.
According to Modern Drummer, Alex Van Halen’s drumming has profoundly shaped the landscape of modern music and performance.
“His distinctive style, rhythmic innovation and iconic drum sound are deeply embedded in the DNA of the music we enjoy today,” the magazine’s YouTube video description said.
“Moreover, his elaborate and customised drum sets have undoubtedly influenced a generation of young drummers.”

This will have encouraged them to expand their kits with additional drums or cymbals, or to create their own unique, custom drum setups, the magazine said.
The YouTube videos recognise Alex Van Halen’s prestigious 2023 induction into the Modern Drummer Hall of Fame at the age of 70.
“We are thrilled to present an exclusive video series that pays tribute to Alex’s remarkable career and enduring legacy,” Modern Drummer said.
