Senior citizens from around Grand Cayman marked the end of 2023 with an afternoon of comradery on Sunday, as they gathered for the Progressives annual seniors’ luncheon in Prospect.

Nearly 200 seniors ended their 2023 social calendar with a meal and music at the event, which was hosted at Speaker of the House Sir Alden McLaughlin’s residence.

Progressives and Opposition Leader Roy McTaggart said the event is one that seniors and the party look forward to annually. It’s now in its 21st year.

“[We host this] to keep in contact with our people and supporters…  but also to contribute to the community. Talk to any of the seniors here today, and they’ll tell you how much they love this event. It’s a great opportunity for them to get out, see, mix and mingle with their peers and enjoy some good food,” McTaggart said.

Attendees were treated to a feast, which included stew conch cooked by McLaughlin.

The menu also included staples like Cayman style beef, salt beef, beans and rice, and peas.

The event also featured live music from JR Douglas and band.

McTaggart said the luncheon was initially planned for 17 Dec. but was postponed due to projected foul weather.

He said the luncheon was a great way for the seniors to end the year together.
