Cayman sailor Matheo Capasso and partner Holthus Kelly, of San Diego, USA, turned in a top 10 finish during the World Junior (U22) Snipe Championships, held in Miami Florida, from 2-7 Jan.
The duo, who are teammates at Tulane University, competed nine times over five days during the regatta, which featured 46 boats representing 19 countries.
Capasso and Kelly had their best results over the last two days of the competition, placing second, third and fifth in their final races, ultimately contributing to them placing 7th overall, besting 39 other boats.
The championships’ Snipe class allowed for mixed country entries, with the boat registered under the country of the skipper (driver), which was Capasso. Out of all the countries, Cayman notched a third place overall.
The two sailors are expected to compete again within the next several months.
