The annual Easter Regatta, one of the Cayman Islands Sailing Club’s longest-standing traditions, is ready to set sail in the coming days during the club’s 60th anniversary celebration.
The event, which serves as one of the club’s most enduring traditions, officially starts on Good Friday, 3 April, featuring the ‘Round the Island Race’.
The offshore race will see a fleet of cruising yachts depart from the main channel in the North Sound on Friday morning to navigate a course around East End and along the South Coast, concluding at Sunset House in George Town.
The regatta continues on Saturday, 4 April, with the ‘Race Back to the Sound’.
This leg of the competition is scheduled to begin at 10am from Sunset House, taking the fleet north along Seven Mile Beach and around North West Point before returning to the North Sound.
“The Easter Regatta Round the Island Race is our blue riband event for the year,” said Ben Webster, cruiser fleet representative at the Cayman Islands Sailing Club.
“After a successful start to the 2026 racing calendar, I hope to see a strong turnout for our 60th anniversary event. For those concerned about completing the full course, we also offer a shortened version around North West Point, finishing at Sunset House,” Webster added.
Preparations for the regatta will begin with a mandatory skippers’ briefing at the Cayman Islands Sailing Club clubhouse in Red Bay on Wednesday, 1 April at 7pm.
Following the conclusion of the weekend’s nautical activities, the formal prizegiving ceremony is scheduled for 10 April at 7pm at the Sailing Club.
Cruising boat skippers can contact the Cayman Islands Sailing Club at [email protected] to join the event.
