A port worker has been injured while on duty at the Port Authority in George Town.
It is the second industrial incident at the facility in as many weeks.
Police, in a brief comment to the Cayman Compass, confirmed the incident happened on Monday afternoon.
“There was an industrial accident on Portland Road which police and other emergency services responded to. A man was transported to hospital by ambulance,” a police spokesperson said.
According to social media reports, the man sustained a broken leg in the incident.
The Compass reached out to both Port Director Paul Hurlston and the ministry for comment; we are awaiting a response.
In another incident earlier this month, one of the port’s mechanics suffered a “non-life threatening injury” after falling at the George Town facility the weekend when both cranes at the port were down.
The authority addressed the failure of the equipment saying that the board is aware of the poor condition of the port container-handling equipment and has made provisions to replace the ageing cranes.
It pointed to the recent increase in port fees, saying that this will be allocated to equipment replacement.
