Local artists and musicians displayed a variety of talent during a showcase on Sunday, 28 Jan. at the Harquail Theatre.
Artists of all ages delivered memorable performances, and bringing energy and excitement to the stage.
Local musician Jimi La Pierre opened the show with a number of steel pan pieces.
Teenagers who took part in a one-day acting workshop, hosted by the Cayman National Cultural Foundation, along with local actress Wendy Miller, presented an improvised skit which took audience members on a hunt to find which characters on stage ‘stole the money’.
“We had a total of 13 students as part of the acting workshop, from ages 12 up to16, and then we had our adult groups,” Miller told the audience at the showcase. “It was absolutely refreshing, and they had so much fun. We really have a lot of talent in Cayman and it’s important to keep the culture alive through them.”
The youngest performer of the night, Joshua McKenzie, wowed the crowd with his rendition of ‘God has a Plan’.
While the evening focused on the talented young people, the show was complemented by seasoned performers, including Michael McLaughlin, who delivered the monologue by the character Mickey Bloodstone in ‘Blood Brothers’; Lesley-Ann Bernard, who presented a monologue as the wicked queen from ‘Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs’; and Erica Assai, who gave an emotional rendition of her original song, ‘You’re Not Here’.
Other performers included Ashley Spencer (poem), Harris Murillo-Johnson (monologue), and Fruits of the Spirit group, singing ‘Gifted for Greatness’.
One of the standout performances of the night was by emcee and singer, Arek Nicholson, who gave a soulful rendition of ‘Bring Him Home’, mesmerising the audience.
The evening ended with a Cayman medley dance by Dreamchasers Cayman.
