The Cayman Islands Tourism Association has called on anyone with information related to Sunday’s multiple-victim shooting at Ed Bush Stadium to come forward.
CITA’s statement has come as police continue their manhunt for the lone shooter who, as of Tuesday morning, remained at large following the incident that has sent shock waves throughout Cayman and garnered international headlines.
CITA, in a short statement to the Cayman Compass on Tuesday, said it was “deeply concerned” about the “distressing event”.
“As an association dedicated to the promotion of our islands, CITA remains resolute in our commitment to fostering a safe and welcoming environment for residents, visitors, and businesses alike,” the statement said.
Three of the victims remain in hospital in stable condition, while four have since been treated and released.
Premier Juliana O’Connor-Connolly announced a $250,000 reward to help catch and convict the gunman.
CITA said in response to the “unfortunate circumstances” on Sunday it has been communicating with government authorities and stakeholders within the tourism sector.
“We are committed to working collaboratively with all relevant parties to ensure that measures are in place to encourage security and safety across our islands,” it said.
The association said it encouraged “all tourism stakeholders to demonstrate strength through unity as we navigate through these trying times”.
The Compass also reached out to the Chamber of Commerce, which has declined to comment at this point.
A chamber spokesperson said the organisation may change its position as the investigation progresses.
