Woman dies in Cayman Brac car crash

A 30-year old Mexican woman died in a car crash on Cayman Brac early on Wednesday morning.

Emergency services were called to the scene at around 7.15am and initial investigations indicate the woman died in a single-vehicle collision in the early hours of the morning, police said. She was pronounced dead at the scene by an attending medical practitioner.

In a subsequent update, police confirmed the woman was from Mexico and was living and working in Cayman Brac. Her next of kin in Mexico have now been informed of the incident and are being assisted by the police.

The crash happened on South Side Road West, west of Bluff Road, in the vicinity of Beach Club between 2am and 3am.

A section of road was closed while police were completing analysis of the scene. It has since been cleared with the assistance of the Cayman Islands Fire Service and re-opened to the public.

Police have expressed condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.

The Cayman Brac Power and Light company put out a statement at 7.45am advising customers there would be a power outage later on Wednesday in the area while a telegraph pole, broken in “a motor vehicle accident”, was replaced.
