Police have arrested the driver in Tuesday’s collision on the Linford Pierson Highway that has left two road workers severely injured, one of whom remains in critical condition at hospital.

The driver, a 35-year-old man of George Town, was arrested for dangerous driving offences, police said in a statement on Thursday morning.

A breathalyser test was conducted on the driver, police said, and it returned a negative result.

The crash happened shortly after 3pm. Police said initial investigations indicate that the driver, who was travelling in a westerly direction, on reaching the roundabout lost control of the vehicle.

The vehicle left the road and collided with a pole, also striking two men who were working in the area, police said.

The vehicle then came to a stop in the eastbound lane.

The two men were taken to the hospital for treatment for their injuries.

Police said one worker is in a stable condition, the other is in critical condition.

Among the first on the scene of Tuesday’s crash was Eric Bush, chairman of the National Road Safety Committee.

He was among the first to call 911.

National Road Safety Committee statement, issued in the aftermath of Tuesday’s collision, said that statistics indicate that more than 600 motor vehicle accidents have been recorded since the beginning of the year.
