The FFP Cayman Islands national XVs team descended on Bermuda over the weekend, defeating the home team 44-12.

The 4 May game, the first test match of the year, came in preparation for Cayman’s bout against Mexico at the Truman Bodden Sports Complex on 31 May.

Mike Peck got things going for Cayman, securing the first try just 15 minutes into the game. Four minutes later, Alex Manfield powered through for a second try, with a successful conversion by Conal Keane.

The Cayman men continued their dominance with Jeffrey Robinson scoring another try 31 minutes into the game, followed by a second conversion by Keane.

Not long after, Keane was contributing to the score again, this time by slotting in two penalty kicks. Mike Luxton further bolstered their lead with a try and again Keane made good on the conversion.

As the match progressed, substitutions were made, injecting fresh energy into the Cayman squad. By the 76th minute, Cayman led 44-0, with tries from Blake Egelton and Jordan Southway, along with Keane’s conversions.

However, Bermuda finally flipped the script, erasing what would have been a clean sheet win for Cayman, after a tip tackle from Cayman’s Justin May which resulted in a yellow card. Amidst the intense action, Bermuda took advantage of their opportunity, scoring two tries, to end the game 44-12.

Before Cayman faces off with Mexico at the end of the month, the local men will train alongside Major League Rugby team the Miami Sharks on 18 May, at the Cayman Rugby Club, starting at 9am.

Cayman Rugby is encouraging spectators to come out and show their support for both the Miami Sharks training session and the game against Mexico.
