Cayman sailor Matheo Capasso has secured a spot at the ICSA Singlehanded National Championships later this year after winning the Southeastern Intercollegiate Sailing Association (SEISA) Open Singlehanded title at his conference regatta.

The SEISA sailing championships, which took place on Lake Travis in central Texas on 15 Sept., featured Capasso putting on a top performance despite unfavourable weather.

Capasso, a junior at Tulane University, won the title by recording two first-place finishes and one second-place finish with a total of four points in three races.

His win, which earned him an automatic qualification to the ICSA Nationals, comes weeks after competing at the ILCA US National Championship, where he placed sixth overall out of 30 sailors.

Now he will turn his attention to the ICSA Singlehanded National Championships, taking place on the weekend of 9-10 Nov., in St. Petersburg, Florida.
