A local dive boat has washed up against the rocks along the George Town shoreline as a surface trough across the western Caribbean brought showers, southeasterly winds and choppy seas to Cayman.
The boat, which came loose from its mooring late on Sunday afternoon, was being smashed against the ironshore by Burger King as wave action continued.
Although the forecast called for “smooth seas with wave heights of less than 2 feet”, the sea in George Town and along the west coast of Grand Cayman grew rougher throughout the afternoon.
According to the National Weather Service, there is currently a surface trough across the western Caribbean that will support an increased chance for cloudiness and showers across the area through Sunday afternoon, with a gradual decrease expected thereafter.
“Light east to southeast winds and seas are expected to continue across the area for the next few days due to a slack pressure gradient across the Northwest Caribbean,” the National Weather Service noted.
