There will be some cute additions to the Queen Elizabeth II Botanic Park over the Christmas and New Year period, as local gardeners have used their talents and skills to create unique decorations of penguins and reindeer from natural materials.
A colony of penguins and a herd of reindeer will be among the innovative ornaments crafted from local flora by members of the Garden Club of Grand Cayman.
The “little charmers”, as club members describe the handmade creatures, can be seen at the park from 2 Dec. until 6 Jan.
The Garden Club members painted parts of Christmas palms to create the penguins and fashioned the reindeer from Washington palms.
They have also made festive Christmas wreaths from sea grape, and stars with branches from the many different trees on island.
The gardeners will spend a day at the Botanic Park setting up the decorations in early December.
The Garden Club will also be holding its popular Family Day celebration on 26 Jan. at the park. Activities will include crafts, flower arranging, silver thatch plaiting lessons, games and music.
