Police have said the man who was found dead at the rear of a commercial premises on Middle Road on 31 Dec. may have been assaulted prior to his death.

Police, in a statement on Wednesday morning, released the name of the victim as Christopher Spencer Johnson, 56, of George Town.

They also announced that “recent inquiries now suggest that this incident is a suspicious death”.

The Cayman Compass had previously sought further details on the circumstances and whether Johnson’s body displayed injuries.

Police indicated that “all possible lines of enquiries are being carried out in order to ascertain the circumstances that [led] to death of the gentleman found on Middle Road”.

The incident, they told the Compass, was being investigated as a “sudden death unless the evidence gathered leads the investigation in another direction”.

Police, in their statement, said evidence suggests that the victim “may have been assaulted between approximately 4.30am and 7.30am on the day he was found, which subsequently resulted in his death”.

The Compass has reached out to the Johnson family. They have declined to speak at this time.
