More than 130 participants across 32 teams took part in Leadership Cayman’s Heritage Hunt – an island-wide event designed to deepen appreciation for Cayman’s cultural and natural legacy – on Saturday, 21 June.

Exploring the stories, traditions and landscapes that shape Caymanian identity in a friendly and competitive atmosphere, teams navigated 11 National Trust sites using clues, riddles and team challenges in an interactive format.

The day kicked off at Regatta Office Park and culminated in a festive gathering at the Queen Elizabeth II Botanic Park, event partner, where participants came together to celebrate their achievements and reflect on the importance of heritage preservation.

The top three teams received cash prizes provided by sponsors totalling $2,550, as well as National Trust memberships. Other prizes were awarded to teams in special categories, such as exceptional cultural storytelling and visiting the most sites.

The flagship community project of the Leadership Cayman Class of 2025, organised in partnership with the National Trust for the Cayman Islands, the Heritage Hunt was co-led by Leadership Cayman classmates, Genève Phillip-Durham and Pearl Moroka.

Reflecting on the project outcome, Phillip-Durham said, “We are truly heartened by the positively overwhelming feedback we have received from participants, many of whom appreciated the opportunity to visit sites they had never seen. This was the overall goal from the outset, to bring awareness to the work of the National Trust, as a key custodian of Cayman’s heritage.”

Proceeds from registration fees exceeded CI$3,000, with a token donation made to the Queen Elizabeth II Botanic Park for its support. The remaining funds were allocated to the National Trust to assist with site maintenance and the delivery of educational programming.
