Mike Bishop has been appointed chair of the Cayman Drama Society board, succeeding Stuart Broad, following the society’s annual general meeting held in March.
Bishop has been a member of the Cayman Drama Society since 2016 and has acted in eight of its productions, including “Grease”, “Footloose” and “Noises Off!”. Prior to this year, he has been the secretary to the committees of the society since 2019.
Commenting on his new role, Bishop said he is delighted to be voted as chairman with big shoes to fill.
“The person in the executive chair position has to play many roles, rather like in a play – at times an ambassador and salesman for the society, but mostly a team player, often found sweeping the floor or re-stocking the theatre bar,” he said.
On his vision for the drama society, Bishop said he hopes to “educate, enrich and entertain our Cayman community through quality theatre, lifelong education and creative opportunities for all”.
“My career and day job is in technology and I hope to bring some technological advancements during my tenure.”
Bishop is the producer of the society’s upcoming performance, “The Princess and the Pea”, which opens 20 Sept. to 5 Oct. at the Prospect Playhouse.

The production, which features five cast members and half-a-dozen crew, is a fairy tale for all ages, but especially aimed at primary school-aged children.
The special adaptation of the Hans Christian Andersen classic, by Cayman Drama Society’s Alena Valiaeva, has a run time of 45 minutes with no intermission.
As part of the society’s community outreach, the production will include a ‘pay what you can’ performance on Sunday, 28 Sept. at 2:00pm. Attendees are invited to choose their own price tag for tickets for this performance, ranging from $5 to $15.
