A pedestrian was killed and another seriously injured late Friday night following a vehicle collision on West Bay Road near the location of Lone Star.
According to police, the incident occurred shortly before midnight on 12 Sept., when two men were crossing the road with a trolley and were hit by a white pickup truck.
Emergency Medical Services attended the scene after 9-1-1 dispatchers received reports of the crash.
One of the victims died at the scene, where an attending physician confirmed his death. The second was rushed to hospital by ambulance and is being treated for serious injuries.
The 29-year-old driver of the pickup, from Bodden Town, stayed at the scene. Officers carried out a roadside breath test, which showed he was over the legal alcohol limit. He was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving and a blood sample was taken at the hospital. He has since been released on bail as investigations continue.
Accident reconstruction officers examined the scene overnight, forcing a temporary road closure while investigations were carried out. The roadway was later reopened with help from the Cayman Islands Fire Service and the National Roads Authority.
Police say the investigation remains active and are urging anyone who witnessed the fatal crash to come forward. Anyone with information can contact the Traffic and Roads Policing Management Unit on 649-6254 or the George Town Police Station at 949-4222.

At least the driver remained on the scene although he must have known he was over the limit. Too many times we have hit and run.
I hope that they make an example of this driver, an irresponsible DUI driver who was most likely driving reckless and speeding as well. Regardless of the nationality, throw the book at them! Government needs to bring in a host of “shock and awe” Fines and Penalties for this sort of road rage and carnage!
