My journey to Dart began with a newspaper article I read in the Caymanian Compass in 2001.
It told the story of Dart: a company embarking on a visionary, master-planned town that would evolve over decades.
The development, then called the West Indian Club, spanned 238 acres from Seven Mile Beach to the North Sound and was rooted in the principles of new urbanism: a place to gather, live, work, learn and play.
I was captivated and knew I wanted to be part of the team that would bring this vision to life. Today, that vision is vibrant and thriving in the Town of Camana Bay.
That Compass article changed the trajectory of my professional life.
More than two decades later, I remain filled with gratitude, joy and awe at what we’ve accomplished in the Cayman Islands under the guidance of our founder, Ken Dart, and CEO, Mark VanDevelde.
From transformative developments and community investments to the acquisition of Compass Media in 2023, our journey has been one of purpose and passion.
Celebrating the 60th anniversary of the Cayman Compass is therefore both a moment of pride and reflection.
At Dart, we build with a long-term perspective and a commitment to creating enduring value. In the case of the Cayman Compass, this meant recognising the newspaper’s vital role in delivering quality journalism: journalism that informs, safeguards and strengthens Cayman’s future.
For six decades, the Compass has been a beacon of truth, a guardian of democracy, and the storyteller of our collective journey.
The Cayman Compass motto, ‘The Cayman Islands’ trusted news source,’ resonates deeply with us. Dart honours this vision and the stewards who have upheld it for the past 60 years.
We are proud to follow in the footsteps of the individuals and families who built and protected the Compass legacy as the chronicler of Cayman life.
