A man has been charged with attempted murder after turning himself into police in relation to an incident which took place during Pirates Week celebrations in George Town.
A statement from the RCIPS said that following investigations into a serious assault on Saturday, 15 Nov., during Pirates Week celebrations, a 23-year-old man from George Town turned himself in to police and was arrested on Wednesday, 19 Nov.
The man has since been formally charged with attempted murder, wounding with intent, and possession of an offensive weapon.
He appeared in court on Friday, 21 Nov., and was remanded in custody pending a further appearance on Friday, 28 Nov.
Argument turned physical
It was reported that two men had a verbal altercation in the area of the main courthouse building on Edward Street. This escalated to a physical fight, which led to one of the men sustaining a stab wound to his chest.
The victim left the scene in a private vehicle as officers responded and was met by the ambulance en route. The injured man was treated by the hospital overnight for serious but non-life-threatening wounds. He later discharged himself from hospital following treatment.
The incident took place during the Pirates Week event and detectives are encouraging anyone with information to call the George Town Police Station at 949-4222 and assist with the ongoing investigation.
